Our Headquarters

Effective Monday, May 29, 2017, the duty desk at the front of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service's building will be staffed from 07:00 - 23:00 hours daily.  At all other times, the inner lobby doors of the building will be locked.  Persons attending at the Police Service's building, when the duty desk is not staffed, can utilize the telephone located inside the inner lobby doors to speak to a police dispatcher.  The public entrance of the Police Service's building will be closed between 23:00 hours to 07:00 hours.  Any member of the public who wishes to call the Police Service and speak to a duty officer during these hours will still be able to do so as normal.

From its rather humble beginnings in 1871, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has grown into a modern and progressive Police Service which serves a population of approximately 75,000 with 139 sworn Police Officers supported by 43 fulltime and approximately 9 part-time civilians. Sault Ste. Marie is located at the heart of the Great Lakes and shares a border and sister city with the State of Michigan. The area is rich in natural beauty and splendour of forests and waterways. It is located on the Trans Canada Highway, equal distance between Toronto and Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Policing has to many been about enforcement, catching criminals, and seizing weapons and drugs. However, much more is required to provide effective policing services. Our Police Service continually strives to update its operational areas including our fleet, our building, and our technologies.  Members also spend many hours in training to provide quality customer service and response to calls for service.

We need all in our Community to work with us, to provide energy and creativity, to make Sault Ste. Marie and Prince Township enviable places to live, work, and raise our families. We value the support of all members and our community partners and look forward to working with all in the future.
