Accessibility Issues

The purpose of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (ODA) is to improve opportunities for people with disabilities and to provide for their involvement in the identification, removal, and prevention of barriers to their full participation in the life of the province. To this end, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has made every effort to make our website accessible and easy to use for everyone, no matter which browser you use, and whether or not you have disabilities.

As our community's population continues to grow, there will be pressure on infrastructure and service providers resulting from the expectations of our citizens. As we consider the significant population growth, it is important to remember that persons with disabilities number a significant portion of our population. They suffer substantial disadvantages and exclusion in gaining access to information and communications which the general public usually enjoys.

People with disabilities are a part of the diverse composition of the population we serve. The legitimate needs of all persons drives the need for responsive public services that enhance quality of life. Members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service understand the importance of inclusion and will continue to develop strategies and programs that facilitate access to policing services.

Through the development of this website we have worked hard to provide a very readable site that is dynamic to needs.  We have done our best to facilitate any impairments that may as a result make it traditionally more difficult to view.

A variety of methods have been undertaken in order to allow disabled users to have the same opportunity to understand as everyone else.

These Features Are...

Dynamic Text:

- Allows users to change the font size to suit their needs.  By clicking the arrow indicating the ‘Up’ direction (located in the top right of every page), the text content of the site will increase in size and allow readers to view the words at the size they require.

- or hold down the control key and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to scale the entire website larger or smaller

The following is a description of the tools that will assist you to navigate the structure and content of this website:

* In Internet Explorer, content text size can be adjusted by accessing the View menu, then Text Size controls

* A slightly larger default text

* The website can be translated into multiple languages with just one click inside a drop-down box

Design Elements:

- Very user-friendly navigation with colour changing attributes allowing for a stronger notification as to the mouse position
